Growing up in Florida, brothers R.J., Justin, and Jason Murray had dreams of together opening their own surf shop. As they got older, their lives and careers took them in different directions. But in 2009, Jason, the youngest, passed away unexpectedly, and R.J. and Justin felt lost. It was being out on the water again where R.J. felt closest to Jason. It also rekindled the dream of the surf shop. "When things happen like that in your life, it kind of wakes you up," R.J. Murray says. From there, Three Brothers paddle boards was born.
Today, R.J. and Justin design their Three Brothers paddle boards based on the look of vintage '50s and '60s California surfboards. "It's what we believe is the most classic time in surfing," R.J. says. "We wanted to come up with a design that was always in style. It’s something you want to hang on your wall when you’re not using it. We try to stick with that timeless look."
Their company, as well as the sport of paddle boarding, have both grown rapidly. "The reason is you can do it anywhere," R.J. says, "lakes, ponds, the ocean -- you just need a body of water." Now, eight years after launching Three Brothers Boards, R.J. and Justin have stayed true to their original vision of a family business. "Our offices are right door next to each other," R.J. says of his brother Justin. "We have lunch together every day, we paddle together every day."
Three Brothers is offering 20 percent off any regularly priced board to Splinter Creek residents.
