Peak Perseids

Sonia Thompson

The Perseids, which peak during mid-August, are considered the best meteor shower of the year. According to NASA, the best night for viewing is Thursday, August 12, 2021.

The Perseids are considered the best because they are fast and bright and frequently leave long "wakes" of light and color behind them as they streak through Earth's atmosphere. They are also plentiful, with 50-100 meteors seen per hour, so you don't have to worry that you'll blink and miss it.
