Oxford has always been the small town of big parties. From tailgating in the Grove to turning a live radio show into a social event each week with Thacker Mountain Radio, Oxford knows how to enjoy a good time.
With parties in mind, we wanted to highlight The One Night Stand At the Ole Miss Motel Art Show, which is returning for its 12th year this Saturday, October 13 from 5-9 p.m.
The Motel Art Show is one of the most unique events in Oxford. For one night only, artists transform 11 motel rooms in a travel-lodge style motel on University Avenue into a personal art gallery for the evening. Guests move from room to room, viewing and purchasing art directly from the artists.
Many artists have gotten their start showing their work at the Motel Art Show. Since the first show in 2007, more than 122 different artists have shown their work, several going on to land shows around the world, such as Jonathan Kent Adams, Frances Berry, Michael Foster, Britt Bass, and Kate Roebuck.
Recently, the show has become as much about highlighting food as the art. Saint Leo did their first pop up at The One Night Stand, before they opened a brick and mortar on the Square. This year, Smoke Shop Oxford is providing food for the “first dibs” crowd and will have food for sale for the rest of the evening. Jackson Beer Company will also be offering beer samples.
5-6 p.m. is first dibs. A $20 ticket allows for a first chance to buy art and a small plate from Smoke Shop Oxford. 6-9pm is free admission, with food and remaining art available for purchase.
*Tickets are available for purchase day of the show.
*All ages welcome.
*No parking available on the premises. Please park in one of the free lots around the square and take the bus, take a taxi, or carpool to the event.
